MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana lifted the 48th Chandor Seamen Trophy defeating host Chandor Club, 7-5 via the tie-breaker, in the final, played at Chandor ground. The winners also took home Rs 80,000.

Both teams displayed an excellent brand of soccer from the word go. Both teams went all out in search of an opener when finally Mackson shot into Chandor goal in the 14th minute. The Chandor lads built up enough pressure on Curtorim looking out for an equaliser which seemed to evade them when a power packed shot hit the cross and rebounded into the field to be cleared to safety by the Curtorim defence. Keeping up the pressure Chandor forward pumped another shot which hit the goal post and went wide. Curtorim led 1-0 at the lemon break.

Crossing over,  both teams seemed equal in all departments of the game when from a cross from the wings  was capitalised by Alreach Peixoto to shoot into Curtorim nets  in the 51st minute. The celebration had hardly died down when Nalister Silveira found the nets for Curtorim right in the 52nd minute. The Chandor lads did not give up and finally Chandor's Vitorino placed a superb shot into the rival goal to level the score as the match ended 2-2 draw.

In the tie¬-breaker, Jovel Martins, Nickson Castanha, Marcus Fernandes, Aliston Fernandes and Joy Hilario were on target for the winners while, Vitorino Fernandes, Valentino Carvalho and Sildon Peixoto scored for Chandor.

Melissa Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the trophy to the winners. Other dignitaries were Dr Caitano president of GFA, Rev Fr Jean Da Cruz Fernandes Parish Priest, John A Fernandes - Asst Director of Sports and Youth Affairs and Irwin Antao of Textiles Technologist and Sapanchas of VP Chandor-Cavorim and VP Guirdolim  Estefanio Dias and Sonia Dias, respectively. 

Irwin Antao, John Fernandes, Domingos Piedade Fernandes and Joao Francis Peixoto (Fanchu) were felicitated for their contribution to the society and to football.
