RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana got the better of Goa Police 1-0 in the GFA First Division of the football match played at Raia ground, on Thursday.

Cliff Barreto scored the match-winner in the 68th minute for the South Goa team.

The match started evenly as both the teams began with possession play. However, Curtorim Gymkhana had the first crack at goal when Nelson Fernandes on receiving the ball from Suraj Naik hit straight at the keeper.

At the other end, Goa Police’s Abdul Kader Khan ran down the Curtorim defence but the lad’s effort was blocked by Curtorim’s Joseph Monteiro.

In the ninth minute, Goa Police U-20 Vineet Budge made an impressive solo run however, the former Dempo SC players strike was denied by Curtorim defender Roque Borges.

In the 36th minute, Curtorim’s Jesmon Soares connected to Wayne Rodrigues, who did everything right but fumbled infront of the keeper. Goa Police keeper denied Cliff Barreto in the 40th minute with a diving save.

In the dying minutes of the first half, both teams failed to take their chances. First –Goa Police’s Sawanand Naik’s header missed the frame by whiskers and at the other end, Jesmon Soares wasted an easy opportunity to give Curtorim lead as his run was intercepted Dinesh.

Crossing ends, the story continued as Goa Police squandered another opportunity when substitute Sachin’s acrobatic effort sailed over the rival crossbar.

In the 68th minute, Curtorim Gymkhana punished the opponents for not taking their chances as they broke the deadlock through Cliff Barreto’s shot off Jesmon corner.
