PANJIM: Fifteen-year-old Rosary High School student Darsh Pai will meet Shreyas Patil in the final of the boys under-18 category in the ongoing Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Open 2024, at the Panjim Gymkhana and Clube Teannis de Gaspar Dias courts, on Saturday.
Pai, Goa’s top ranked tennis player defeated Shay Walke (6-4) in the semi-final, while Patil defeated Puneet Fadte (6-3).
Earlier in quarter-finals, Pai had wiped out his opponent Vidaal Menezes (6-0), while Walke had defeated Vivaan Agarwal (6-3). In the other two quarter-finals, Puneet Fadte had defeated Ethan De Ataide (6-1) and Shreyas Patil beat Krishna Volvoikar (6-1). In the girls category in the same age group, Tithee Bhoomkar beat Vidhi Naik (6-3) to reach the final.
In the U-14 quarter-finals, Vivaan Agrawal beat Adianta Devaraya (6-1), Vedant Naik defeated Arhan Gaunkar (6-2), Kyan Mavany beat Alec Barreto (6-3) and Ethan De Ataide beat Noah Carvalho (6-1).
In the Veterans 45+ doubles category, Sandeep Verlekar and Sameer Kakodkar were knocked out in the quarter-finals (6-2) by Sachin Dukle and Kevin Rebello, who reached the semis, while Bulu Godinho and Mano Chhabra defeated Jai Gill and Anurag Agrawal over two sets (6-3) (6-0) to reach the men’s doubles final.
In four clashes to earn semi-finals spots of the men’s singles category, Santosh beat Anurag Agrawal (6-1), Prajat defeated Raju Kundaikar (6-2), Mano Chhabra beat Ganesh Vernekar (6-3) and Prince De Silva beat Siddharth (6-4).
The mixed doubles quarter-finals also featured two clashes between Aishwarya/Siddarth who defeated Archana/Prajat (6-3) and Simran/Bulu who vanquished Supriya/Jai (6-1).
Sachin Dukle and Kishor Metry also reached the final in the Veteran’s 45+ Singles category, defeating Dmitry Smirnov (7-5) (6-4) and Rajnish Dhall (4-6) (7-6) (10-6) respectively, while in the Men’s Doubles semis in the same age bracket, Mano Chhabra/Bulu wiped out Sameer Kakodkar/Laxman Iyer’s challenge (6-0) (6-0).
In the Veterans 55+ Doubles semi-final, Sadguru Dessai/Kevin Rebello beat Robert D’Souza/Surjit Lamba (6-0).
