PANJIM: Dempo SC Jrs got the better of A A de Moira 2-1 in the GFA Second Division North District play off at Goa Velha ground, on Tuesday.

Dempo SC Jrs were hit with a blow before the start of the match, as they had only eleven players available to play against A A de Moira. Dempo’s Aaron Alvares, Boris De Mello, Pristo Dias and Deepraj Govekar have been selected to represent the State team for BC Roy national championship while Kapil Hoble was serving the suspension.

High on morale A A de Moira started the match on an attacking note and took the lead in the 19th minute through Savio Fernandes.

Down by a goal, Dempo SC Jrs regrouped quickly and pressed in search of the equaliser.

With no substitutions available, Dempo coach Anthony De Souza made tactical shifts in the squad rotating the players to find the right flair.

Jaison Lucas was impressive on the right flank for the Panjim team and he made the initial spade work for the team’s equalising goal when he set up Remus Gomes, in the rival box.

The former Salgaocar captain kept his cool and infront of the rival keeper as he rounded the keeper with ease to draw level.

Crossing ends, Dempo Jrs took control of the match, as Baggio and Remus tormented the rival defence with their runs.

Dempo finally took the lead at the hour mark when Jaison found Baggio Fernandes in the box and the latter put the ball to the back of the nets with a simple tap in.

The final few minutes of the game saw A A de Moira attacking as the opponents ran out of steam and had no substitutes available.

Yet the Panjim side managed to cling on to their slender lead as Dempo keeper Flezborn pulled off stunning saves.
