UTORDA: Dempo Sports Club scored an easy 2-0 win over Velsao Sports and Cultural Club in the Goa Football Association Goa Professional League match played at Sports Authority ground, Utorda, on Saturday.

Joaquim Abranches scored a brace for the Golden Eagles in the second half.

With this win, Golden Eagles moved to 29 points from 13 games while Velsao are on 17 points from 18 games.

It was Velsao SCC who started the match on an attacking note, which saw them come close to scoring  on couple of occasions.

Their striker Laiwang Bohamm was brilliant upfront, and formed the strong Dempo SC defence with his pace.

However, he couldn't keep his composure when it mattered most. Their midfield functioned well with Bersal Viegas and Joseph Pereira combined well to create chances upfront.

At the other end, Abranches, who has been in good form in recent times, who managed to score three goals in last three games for Goa, failed to take his chances in the first session. Dempo SC were forced to defend in the initial stages.

Crossing over, Dempo SC came back strongly and used the flank, and soon took the lead in the 49th minute when Jessel Carneiro’s cross was pushed in by Abranches which the rival keeper should have done better in dealing the cross.

Once up by a goal, it was always going to be difficult for Velsao SCC to come back in the game but they kept pressing for the leveller.

Finally, in the dying minutes of the game, Dempo SC managed to double the lead and it was Abranches once again, completing his brace.

The move was generated on the flank and played in for Abranches who made no mistake to score.

Earlier, Jason missed a similar opportunity to score when Jessel played an aerial cross in the box, and the lad’s shot went way off target.
