Former Kerala Blasters FC striker Milagres latest signing; Amar, Aiken, Naveen, Ali eager to explore potential at The Golden Eagles
PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club has been rebuilding its team ahead of the GFA’s Goa Pro League with a series of signings of talented footballers from the State.
They have roped in Vasco Sports Club’s lanky stopper-back Amar Halankar, medio Aiken Dias, Naveen Mendes. The defence was further strengthened by the addition of promising Ali Mohammad from Tuff Laxmi Prasad Sports Club and also midfielder Steven Fernandes.
However, the most notable signing has been Milagres Gonsalves from I-League outfit Mumbai FC. The striker made his debut for Salgaocar FC at a tender age of 17 where he topped the goal scorers charts in his debut Goa Pro League season.
After nine seasons with The Greens, Milagres moved to Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters FC in the inaugural season. He went on to make 13 appearances for the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned team, the highest by any Goan and also finished as a runner-up.
Milagres made headlines for his match-winner in a home match against FC Goa. He was released by Kerala Blasters FC this season and was included in the Player Draft.
Although, he could not make the cut with several others, Milagres has fond memories of his stint at the Kerala-based club where he brushed shoulders with top international players and gained experience.
“It was a great experience and achievement to be part of the first ISL and finish as runner-up with Kerala Blasters FC. Meeting our co-owner Sachin Tendulkar was a dream come true,” says the 28-year-old.
When asked about his motivation to join Dempo SC, which have been relegated to the Second Division I-League, Milagres said, “Dempo SC has achieved a lot in Indian football. The management and staff are very helpful and I do believe we will be back in the top flight next season.”
Milagres has set his focus on scoring goals and winning matches for Dempo SC after limited playing time on the pitch for Mumbai FC. The 28-year-old will bring his experience having played with top international stars in the ISL.
