PANJIM: Goa’s Devesh Anand Naik won the second place in the 4th Mumbai International Chess Tournament Open Category, held at World Trade Centre, Mumbai from December 30 to January 7.
By virtue of his win and performance in the tournament, Devesh increased his ratings by 27.6 points. The Open tournament was won by Samrat Ghorai.
Devesh beat Ghadge Harsh, Bhaskar N S, Sairaj Dilip Vernekar, Abhinav Dubey, Amrit Raunak, Dhanvij Ansh and Sunil Vaidya. He drew against Samrat Ghorai and lost against Rushyendra Chowdary in the third round. Devesh also finished 24th in the U-13 category and received a special prize for the same.
In the U-10 category, Sairaj Dilip Vernekar won the second place thus increasing his international rating by 69 points.
In All 234 players from 23 countries participated in the tournament.
In 7th round Sairaj defeated Larmet Nino from France. He drew with Higher rated players Shreyas Ghadi (1653) from Maharashtra & Tejes Suresh Kumar (1586).
FM Aaryan Varshney of Delhi won the tourament .World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand in the presence of AICF Treasurer Kishor Bandekar, AICF Secretary Bharat Sigh & FIDE Vice President D.V. Sunder were present for the event.
Goa’s Ritviz Parab finished 15. He defeated top seed GM Rozum Ivan (2612 rating) from Russia in the 11th round. The tournament was sponsored by IIFL Wealth, Mumbai.
