Erwin clinches U-7 State chess title

PANJIM: Erwin Albuquerque of RCC Vasco, Sports Authority of Goa chess centre emerged winner of the All-Goa U-7 State championship organised by Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association (TTCA) under the aegis of Goa Chess Association, at Mahalaxmi Temple, here, recently.

Varad R Desai secured the second place with 5 points while Rishik Patnekar came third with 4.5 points.

Erwin remained undefeated in the tournament and grabbed full points collecting six from six rounds.

Erwin defeated Shaswat Upadhey of Ponda, Sanjay Siddarth of Tiswadi, Keagon Jaylon Gonsalves, Varad Desai, Ethan Vaz from Salcete and Bicholim’s Rishik Patnekar.

He is now selected to represent Goa state for U-7 Nationals at Karnataka which will be held in July. 

Aarush Salgaonkar (Open category) and Maizah Sayyed (girls category) finished 4th in the final list in their categories respectively. 

All these three players are students of RCC Vasco and are being trained by SAG Coach Swapnil Hoble.
