Ex-hockey player Gavin Coutinho passes away

PANJIM: Former hockey player, Captain Christopher Gavin Coutinho, fom Milleavaddo, Cuncolim, and residing at Old Housing Board S Jose Areal, passed away on Wednesday. He was 52 and leaves behind his wife and two children. The funeral date is yet to be announced.

Gavin was a robust and tough hockey goalkeeper having played for Don Bosco Matunga when he was based in Mumbai, Spiders Hockey Club Margao, Chowgule College, RCC Fatorda during his prime days. His undying love for hockey has inspired his son Cyrus to take on hockey for Kings School in Margao.

Gavin left his imprints on the Goan hockey field, starting right from his school to colleges days alongwith his elder brother Boris when there were no proper hockey grounds, and more so, thereafter at the senior level. His passion and dedication for hockey was simply outstanding, rather unique. He will be remembered for his toil and sacrifices on the field without aiming at any official position in the administration of hockey in the State.
