MAPUSA:FC Goa came from a goal down to hold Churchill Brothers FC to a 1-1 draw in the CAM Goa Professional League played at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday.
After playing their seventh league matches, Churchill Brothers are on 13 points while FC Goa has 11 points.
Both the teams played almost on equal footing and went into the breather locked in a 1-1 draw.
For Red Machine it was Lalkhawpuimawia who put his team ahead in the 9th minute where he leapt high in the air to head the ball into the goal, past the onrushing Young Gaurs keeper Hrithik Tiwari to take the lead.
Young Gaurs managed to level terms in added time of the first session through Vasim Inamdar off a fine combined move initiated by Malsawmtluanga and U20 Mevan Dias.
Earlier in the match Red Machine saw Jobern Cardozo strike travel just past the goal post while substitute Trijoy Dias missed a glorious chance to double the lead where he fumbled inside the 18-yard box to find defender Rayan Menezes clear the ball.
Young Gaurs too had their chances but Vasim Inamdar tapped the ball over the cross bar from handshaking distance. Vasim Inamdar once again faltered having just the rival keeper to beat in one-to-one situation.
On crossing ends, both the teams came close in taking the lead. Young Gaurs Lalremruata HP set the ball to Mevan Dias whose low cross at the goal was blocked by Churchill's skipper George D’Souza.
At the other end, Young Gaurs keeper Hrithik Tiwari brought two out of the blue saves as he paired George D’Souza free-kick for corner and minutes later managed to gets his gloves to Gautam Dias 25-yard strike from entering the top corner of the goal.
Young Gaurs keeper Hrithik once again came to his teams rescue as he stretched his leg to block Trijoy Dias shot at the goal from close.
Churchill Brothers skipper George D’Souza received the man of the match award from Dr. Caitan Fernandes-GFA's President.
