FIDE Chess Olympiad Torch Relay today

PANJIM: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs informed that the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad Torch Relay on July 3.

 The Sports Minister of Goa Govind Gaude will receive the Torch on at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda where a function will be held by the State Government wherein the prominent Chess Players will be felicitated.

The torch was brought to Goa on Saturday  by Grandmaster Aunrag Mhamal. 

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial Chess Tournament organised by FIDE, (The International Federation of Chess).

Chess draws its origin from India and in order to recognise the origin of the Sports and to spread its popularity, the Chess Federation of India with the Government of India organised a Torch Relay. The Torch was launched by the Prime Minister on June 19, 2022 which is to travel thereafter to 75 iconic locations in the Country as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
