FM Nitish wins bronze for Goa in Nat Chess Jrs
To represent the Indian team in Asian Juniors and World Junior Championship next year
PANJIM: Geno brand ambassador FM Nitish Belurkar (2310) of Goa created history by winning first ever medal for State in the National Junior Chess Championship held in New Delhi.
Nitish, who was tied on 8 points with first place GM Karthik in the penultimate round, created his chances in the final round clash with FM Suyogh Wagh of Maharastra (2240) but eventually settled for a draw to be on 8.5 points to win the third place in this prestigious National tournament.
Nitish will now represent the Indian team in both Asian Juniors as well as World Junior Chess Championship next year. Nitish gains 35 rating points in this tournament. He continued his good form which he displayed by becoming the top Goan player in First Goa Grandmaster tournament. He plays National Seniors next at Jammu from December 8.
Geno brand ambassadors FM Ameya Audi (2347) and Ritviz Parab (2309) also performed well to score 8 points and 7.5 points respectively. Ameya defeated AGM Ratneesh R (2017) of Tamil Nadu to be placed 12th while Ritviz lost to CM Aronyak Ghosh (2343) to remain on 7.5 points and be on 17th place.
Another Goan player Devesh Naik (1662) won his last round to score 5.5 points . Devesh gains 67 rating points.
