Faheez brace helps Chapora down Candolim; St Anthony’s SC, Chinchinim prevail

PANJIM: Chapora Yuvak Sangh edged past Candolim SC 2-1 to move ahead in the Goa Tiger Cup 2022 All-Goa inter-village football tournament, organised by Goa United Sports Academy, across the State, on Friday.

At Poriat ground, Calangute, Chapora started strongly and enjoyed a two-goal lead in the first session.

Man-of-the-match Faheez Mohammed gave them the lead in the 17th minute and secured his brace in the 25th minute.

Candolim tried hard to crawl their way back into the match and reduced the margin in the 59th minute through  Aniket Naik.

Elsewhere at Rosary ground, Navelim, St Anthony’s SC, Assolda got the better of Sarzora SC 4-2.

 The winner’s led 2-0 at half time.Sunny (16’) and Fhezer (31’) gave St Anthony’s the edge before heading into the break.

However, Sarzora regrouped well in the second half. Myron (43’) pulled a goal back and they had a glorious chance to equalise in the 53rd minute when they were awarded a penalty. However, Hayden missed from the spot.

Sarzora eventually levelled terms two minutes later through Aston.

The teams went head-to-head in search of the winner, but it was former international Victorino Fernandes who scored the third goal for St Anthony in the final minute of the game and Aldrich secured the victory with a goal in added time.

Aston was adjudged man-of-the-match.

 Chinchinim pip Mitra

In the veterans category, at Dr. Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, Chinchinim Veterans blanked Mitra Veterans 2-0.

Nikita Silva Lobo scored in the seventh minute while Urban Fernandes scored Chinchinim’s second in the 30th minute.

Mitra’s Navil Araujo was adjudged man-of-the-match.
