PILAR: Fr Agnel HSS, Pilar had their Annual Sports Day in an atmosphere of great zeal and excitement.
The day set rolling with the Principal, Fr Andrew Silveira cordially welcoming the esteemed gathering.
Aspirations soared high with the unfurling of the school flag coupled by soul stirring music for the national anthem.
The chief guest Fr Mateus Fernandes, the provincial superior of the Goa province and the Chairman of Xaverian Educational Society took the salute of the spectacular and well synchronized march past of seven contingents representing the seven streams of studies in the institution.
The opening ceremony got underway by declaring the sports meet open by the chief guest. This was followed by the especially composed theme song “Champions” to raise the levels of inspiration for the day. The lighting of the torch brought the sports stars of the school to the forefront. Entailing this was the administering of the oath to instill all with the spirit of sportsmanship.
An elegant and graceful mass drill covering twists, bends, squats, lunges, flexes, and stretches by the boys set the tone for a slew of events that were full of verve and vehemence.
The sack race, tyre race and slow cycling grabbed attention and appreciation for beings movingly hilarious. Once the races and relays began the arena echoed with cheers, jeers and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Great mirth and camaraderie was observed during the 4x100 meters relay for the link schools of our super school complex.
The Zumba display by the girls with its creative energy and catchy music produced a wonderful kaleidoscope of skill, talent and exercise with novelty.
The Chief Guest, Fr. Mateus, being an ex-student of the school himself, applauded the schools march towards excellence. The Manager of the school, Fr. Richard Crasto gave away the prizes and scholarships to the academically outstanding and meritorious students. Doing the honours for the victorious athletes and sportspersons for the day were Fr Roncy Branganza, Principal of Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar, Brother Baltazar Fernandes, Fr Paul and members of the PTA, claps, cries of joy & encouraging shouts endorsed the distribution of medals, certificates and trophies.
