GCA to host Elite Group C BCCI U-19 tourney

PANJIM: Goa Cricket Association will host the Elite group C of the BCCI U-19 fifty over cricket tournament between eight states in Goa will be held from February 10 to 26 and will be held simultaneously at the GCA Academy ground, Porvorim, The GCA ground in Sanguem and the Margao Cricket club (MCC) ground, Margao from 9.30 am.

The winners and runners-up of the Elite Group C will qualify for the final round.

Speaking at a press conference, Chairperson of the organising committee, Veena Phadte said, “The tournament will go a long way in encouraging girls in Goa to come and play cricket in more numbers. I know the tournament is clashing with exams but I call on all girls, who can make it, to come and support Goa and watch the girls from other teams.”

Tejeswini Duragad has been named captain of the Goa team and Shindiya Naik is her deputy. 

The Goa team comprises of Tejeshwini Duragad, Shindiya Naik, Purvaja Verlekar,Diksha Amonkar, Divya Naik, Tanaya Naik, Poorva Bhaidkar, Diksha Gaude, Sejal Satardekar, Rehna Kamat,Gayatri Talwar, Ibtisam Shaikh,Savali Kolambkar,Urvashi Govekar and Taniya Pawar.

Hosts Goa are grouped with Tamil Nadu, Vidharbha, Gujarat, Odisha, Tripura, Saurashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.

GCA executive committee member Manohar Naik has been appointed in charge of the Sanguem venue while Sayed Abdul Majid is in charge of Margao. Mohan Chodankar is in charge of Porvorim and Yatin Kamurlikar has been appointed the tournament co-ordinator by GCA.
