Goa’s Tanisha, Pranjal in quarter-finals

MAPUSA: Goa’s rising shuttlers Tanisha Crasto and Pranjal Chimulkar along with their respective partners played brilliantly to storm into the quarter-finals in women’s doubles event, at the Yonex Sunrise Senior All India Badminton Ranking Tournament, underway at Peddem Sports complex, Mapusa. 

Boosted by home support, Pranjal along with her partner T Samatroy from Kerala knocked out third seeds Agno Anto and Ashna Roy 17-21, 21-14, 24-22 in a thrilling match to head into the quarters. In yet another exciting match, Goa sensation Tanisha Crasto and her partner Sahithi Bandi came back brilliantly from a set down to upset the fifth seeded pairing of Shruti K.P and Ningshi Hazarika by a 17-21, 22-20, 21-15 score line. 

In the women’s singles, Goa’s hopes were dashed when Anura Prabhu Desai bowed out, losing 19-21, 17-21 to Maharashtra’s Mughda Agrey in Roud of 32. Anura, who sustaind an injury during her singles match,had to concede her pre quarter finals doubles. Anjana Kumari, the other Goan in singles main draw, lost 8-21, 12-21, to Maharashtra’s Vaishnvi Bhale in Round of 32. Aryamann Tandon & Aakarrshi Kashyap, the top seeds in Men’s and women’s singles, former Nationals doubles champions V Diju and Roopesh Kumar, and rising star players Priyanshu Rajawat, Ashmita Chaliha, Siril Verma, Dhruv Kapila, Krishna Prasad, Shikha Gautam, Ashwini Bhat, Shlok Ramchandra and Arjun MR were among those who entered the last eight.
