Goa Police Football Cup from April 28

PANJIM: Twelve teams will fight for the Goa Police Football Cup beginning from April 28 to be played at three different venues which include Duler Stadium (Mapusa), Athletic Stadium (Bambolim) and Artificial Turf, outside Nehru Stadium (Fatorda). 

Addressing a press conference at GRP Camp, Altinho on Monday, SP Karthik Kashyap informed that the 15th edition of the tournament will feature an outstation team (Special Armed Police Force) SRPF, Maharashtra, playing alongside 11 Goan clubs. 

The tournament, sponsored by Axis Bank, is being organised by the Goa Police Sports Cell in association with Vasco Sports Club and the Goa Football Association (GFA).

The 12 teams have been divided into four groups namely Group A: Guardian Angels Sports Club, Panjim Footballers and Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim. Group B includes: Dempo Sports Club, SRPF and Churchill Brothers. Group C: Sporting Clube de Goa, Velsao SC and Sesa FA.  Group D: Salgaocar FC, Goa Police SC and St Savio, Calangute.

There will be four matches on the opening day. Panjim Footballers will clash with Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, SRPF will take on Churchill Brothers, Velsao SC will clash with Sesa FA while Goa Police SC will play St Savio, Calangute.

The winner of each group qualifies for the quarterfinals scheduled for April 30.  In the semi-finals to be played on May 2, winners of Group A will face winner of Group B while Group B topper will clash with Group D winners for a place in the finals on May 4.

Winners of the tournament will richer by get Rs 2 lakh while the runners-up will have to settle for Rs 1 lakh.
