RAIA: Goa Select will open their campaign against Chennai, in the 50+ South Zone Super Seniors Football Championship in Visakhapatnam on May 27.
The 20-member Goa squad led by Luis Vas will leave on May 26. Manoj Keni is the manager.
The Goa team has a fine mix of experience and speed with Seby Vaz, Ramesh Virnodkar and Santan Colaco leading the attack, while Ramesh Palkar, Vincent Barbosa, Anandrose Fernandes, Vincent Colaco and Santan Colaco Sr will lend solidity to the midfield and defence.
“We have been preparing for this tournament since the past few days. We’ve managed to get some friendly games against like-minded veteran teams, and that has helped us in functioning well as a unit,” said Luis Vas.
“We leave with a lot of hope and expectations. The other teams at any outstation competition are always worried about teams from Goa. But this means nothing to us as we will be there to represent Goa and bring home the trophy,” he added.
After their opening match against Chennai on Saturday, Goa Select will play three games on Sunday at the Railway Football Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Goa Select will be up against Telangana State and against Hyderabad. Their last match will be against hosts, Tea Court Football Association (TCFA). The team topping the standings at the end of the round-robin league will be declared winners.
