Goa football fraternity condoles Benedicto’s demise

PANJIM: The Goan football fraternity were dealt with another huge loss as Benedicto (Bishut) Themudo passed away on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a cardiac arrest.

He was 71 when he breathed his last and is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Bishut served two terms (2010-14 and 2014-18) as the Executive Committee Member of the Goa Football Association having been the president of the Navelim Villagers Union in the past. He currently was the President of Navelim Sporting Club and President of Fabrica of Rosary Church, Navelim.

GFA President, Churchill Alemao, in a condolence message said that the two-term executive committee member, will be remembered for his love and dedication for football promotion especially in Navelim and surrounding areas, having been the founder president of Navelim Sporting and founder member of Navelim Villagers Union and its vice-president.

“Deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden and untimely demise of my friend. He was kind and very helpful in public life and also served as a Sarpanch and Zilla Panchayat member. He was active in sports, especially football. May God give courage and strength to his family to bear with their irreplaceable loss. May his soul rest in peace,” added Churchill.

Bishut was originally from Navelim but was presently residing in Colva. He was Ex-Sarpanch of Navelim Village Panchayat and also Ex-Zilla Parishad member of Navelim.

Former GFA President Elvis Gomes stated, “Bishut was a multifaceted personality, whose conduct while in the Goa Football Association during Shrinivas Dempo and my tenure will be remembered for long. Repository of political knowledge, could bring life into meetings with his anecdotes and puns.”

The Goan football fraternity and GFA Executive Committee members were shocked with the untimely death and condoled his death, recalling his contribution in promoting the beautiful game in Navelim and Goa. 

Recalling Bishut’s contribution towards the sports, GFA Genereal Secretary Jovito Lopes stated, “Bishut was a gentleman and he will be always remembered and missed for his contribution towards not just football but also towards the society. My condolences to his wife and daughters.”

GFA Vice President Anthony Pango, who had been Bishut's close friend, was short of words and expressed his grief and said, “This is disheartening. We have lost many close friends in recent days and then Bishut left suddenly. My prayers and condolences to his bereaved family and I pray God gives them strength during these trouble times.”

"Bishut was a jovial person. I am shocked and dumbfounded hearing the news. Always helpful and generous, we will miss his humour and anecdotes and above all his advice whenever sought. I had the best eight years in GFA with him," stated ex General Secretary and current Executive Committee Members of GFA Welvin Menezes.
