Keep semi-final hopes alive in Sub Junior National C’ship
AGENCIES, MIZORAM: Goa kept their semi-final hopes alive after drawing against Telangana 2-2 in the Sub Junior National Football Championship, organised by All India Football Federation, at Arunachal Pradesh, on Wednesday.
Goa started the match on an attacking note and took the lead in the 12th minute when B Braganza played a through pass to Dwayne Neto who showed with great composure infront of the goal as he made it 1-0 in favour of Goa.
Despite dictating play, Goa conceded the equalising goal when Bindeshwar handled the ball in the box and referee pointed out towards the spot kick, which the Telangana team converted to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Goa pressed hard in search of the lead once again and were given a chance when Aryan Salunke was brought down in the box.
This time Neto stepped over and coolly converted from the penalty spot.
Goa had the chance to further inflate the lead but Aryan missed an open sitter as he was one-on with the keeper.
At the other end, Neto almost netted his treble only to see his free-kick hit the cross bar.
Goa conceded the equaliser late in the 75th minute. Goa now play Jharkhand on December 7 and then play their final group match against Haryana on December 11.
