Goa off to flying start

Score a resounding 3-0 win over Assam; play TN on April 28

PANJIM: Goa scored a resounding 3-0 victory over Assam in the first match of the Junior National Football Championship for BC Roy Trophy, at Bhillai, Chhattisgarh, on Thursday.

Goa took control of the match from the first whistle and took the lead in the 15th minute when Boris De Mello was brought down by a rival defender in the box. Joston Cardozo stepped over and coolly converted the resultant spot kick.

Goa dominated the proceeding and went all out in search of another goal to inflate their lead.

Boris scored the team’s second in the 28th minute when he was put through by Standly Fernandes and dribbled past the Assam defender before slotting home to make it 2-0. 

Goa led by a brace at the breather. 

Crossing over, Goa continued from where they had left from.

Savlon Cardozo made the issue save for Goa by tapping home of a loose ball which the keeper could not collect properly of a Joston Cardoz free kick.

Assam were totally overpowered by the energetic and talented Goan youngsters. 

Goa will next face Tamil Nadu on April 29 at 8 a.m.

Earlier, in another match of the same group West Bengal beat Tamil Nadu 3-1.
