Salgaocar FC finish second with better goals average (4) over Dempo SC (2) who were tied on 4 points
PANJIM: Goan Football Club defeated Dempo Sports Club 2-0 in the final league match of the Goa Football Association U-18 League played at Ella ground, on Wednesday.
Goan FC scored a goal each in either session through Joybert Almeida and Asfin Pinto while Goan FC played with a man down after Vasim Inamdar was sent off in the first half. Dempo SC required a win to claim the crown while a draw was sufficient for the Young Gaurs as they began the mach. However, Goan FC scored first in the 5th minute when Joybert Almeida capitalised on a defensive mix up giving the Young Gaurs an early lead.
Stung by reverse, Dempo SC came strongly as they dominated the play and Kanaya set Cletus, but the lad hit straight to the keeper.
Dempo SC had the best chance of the game just before the first half when Cletus played Sanford upfront and the lad with only the keeper at his mercy, shot straight at the custodian. This was probably the best chance for the Golden Eagles in the game.
Goan FC were reduced to 10 men when Vasin hit his stud at a Dempo SC player propelling the referee to show a direct red. Meanwhile, Sanford tried his luck once again from a distance only to see his effort sail over the bar.
Crossing over, Goan FC played defensive game making it difficult for their opponents to break the final wall. At the other end, Chedan was a constant threat to Dempo SC as the lad combined well with Meuton and tormented the rival defensive with their counter attacks. While Dempo SC maintained maximum ball possession they failed to convert it into goals. At the other end, Goan FC scored their second through a counter when goalkeeper Viddesh Bhosle took a quick shot after collecting a Dempo SC attack, which was met by Asfin, who rounded past the Dempo SC keeper to make int 2-0 in the 87th minute. Goan FC collected nine points from three matches.
Meanwhile, Salgaocar FC defeated Sporting Clube de Goa 3-1 at Cansaulim ground, to finish second as they enjoyed better goal average then Dempo SC, who were also tied with 4 points.
Mark Carvalho, Meldon Oliveira and Movin Gauncar scored for the Greens while Pratek Dhargalkar netted for Sporting Clube. Sporting Clube de Goa finished their campaign with nil point.
