AMEBLIM: Goan FC managed to ease past strong holds Dempo SC 7-6 via the tie-breaker to seal the semis spot in the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Tuesday.

Kingslee Fernandes, Leander D’Cunha and Liston Colaoc scored for the Guars while Nestor Dias, Beevan D’Mello and Nickson Castanha converted for the Golden Eagles.

For Goan FC, Liston Colaco’s shot off a free-kick which was well headed by Meldon D’Silva but it was cleared in time.

Dempo SC had two clear attempts to take the lead as Suraj Haldankar and Nestor Dias tried their strikers but an alert custodian Sugitesh cleared them.

It was the Gaurs who took the lead as skipper Kingslee Fernandes eased past Dempo SC defence and scored to give them a 1-0 lead.

But their joy was short lived as Nestor Dias shot his perfect right footer into the bottom corner bringing parity in the score line. After a couple of missed attempts, the Goan FC took a 2-1 lead as Leander tapped in from close range off Kingslee’s pass as they went into the break with a slender lead.

The second half witnessed a higher tempo as both the sides kept attacking. Goan FC added another goal to their tally off Dempo defender Nickson’s mistake with Liston Colaco running deep and tapping in into the post, 3-1.

The Dempo side gave the Gaurs a tough fight as first Nestor missed a close footer, while later vinnet’s long ranger hit the woodwork.

Dempo SC coach brought in substitutes Beevan D’mello, Jaison Vaz and Velito Cruz in quick succession to change the games approach, and this was evident as Beevan tapped in a close ranger off Jaison’s pass, 3-2.

As the game went into add on time, the Dempo side managed to equalise on a counter attack as Beevan long pass found Jaison on the wings as his shot hit the cross-bar but Nickson Castanha placed himself perfectly inside the box to tap it in making it 3-3.

In the resultant tie-breaker, Franzil Negeredo, Liston Colaco, Meldon D’Silva and Savior Gama converted from the spot for the winners.

Earlier, FC Bardez defeated Sesa FA 3-1 to seal semis spot.

FC Bardez took an early lead as Clinton’s corner was neatly tapped in by Neville Albuquerque.  Sesa FA made it 1-1 two minutes later as Cyrus Noronha netted the goal.

FC Bardez managed to take the lead in the final additional time as Inacio Colaco tapped it in off Jessel’s pass before substitute Hanslum Furtado added another late goal as his first touch landed into the nets as the Bardez side won 3-1.
