Goan Warriors FC win shoot-out

MAPUSA: Goan Warriors Football Club registered a 6-5 win via the tie-breaker over Candolim Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of the Late Anthony & Santana Carvalho Memorial Soccer Cup organised by St Savio’s Sports Club, at Calangute Association ground, on Wednesday. 

In the 30th minute, Goan Warriors’ Projot Arabekar’s 14-yard shot hit the crossbar. 

Three minutes later, Candolim’s Yeshwant 23-yard shot was saved by rival goalkeeper Sanij Bugde. 

On crossing over in 48th minute, Candolim SC took the lead through Sanket Jotkar with a glancing header which was assisted by Yeshwant More. 

In the 54th minute, Goan Warriors’ Rajesh Salgaonkar 24-yard free-kick was saved by Candolim SC keeper Brandon Fernandes. 

Ten minutes later, Goan Warriors equalised through Saahil Budge which was assisted by Tushar Dessai. 

Both the teams failed to find the match-winner as their strikers lacked sharpness.

Goan Warriors FC scored through Tushar, Vijet, Saahil, Vishal and Akash while  Yeshwant, Aniket, Saurav and Jose netted for Candolim Sports Club.
