MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club outclassed Goan FC as they registered a resounding 4-0 win over newly entrant side in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, on Thursday.

Latesh Mandrekar’s brace in first half and goal each from Mario Mascarenhas and Beevan D’Mello helped the Golden Eagles to register their second win in the league.

Goan FC coach Clifford Miranda started without most of their regular starters as Liston Colaco, Kingslee 

Fernandes, Yasir Mohammad and Jonathan Cardozo were busy with the senior squad, pre-season in Spain for upcoming Indian Super League, while Princeton Rebello who is with National U-19 side was also unavailable. 

Whereas, Nickson Castanha and Kapil Hoble were back for Dempo who had defeated Vasco SC in their previous match.

Dempo could have taken the lead in the 8th minute when Nickson’s fine cross found Beevan D’Mello with just keeper to beat but the striker failed direct his shot from handshaking distance.

At the other end, the Young Guars also came up with a chance to open their tally as Aaren D’Silva found himself in the commanding position to score after receiving a long ball from Hayden Fernandes but the front man saw his tap missed the target by few inches. 

The Golden Eagles came close to scoring on the counter-attack but the Goan keeper Iprotip Das dived to right to stop Latesh Mandrekar’s powerful shot from the edge of the box, the ball later rolled to Beevan in the box but his shot hit the Meldon D’Silva and went out for a corner.

Finally, after wasting chances, Latesh scored the opening goal for Dempo in the 32nd minutes as the striker’s powerful tap find the net, off Nickson’s low cross from the right.

Seven minutes later, Latesh made it 2-0 for the Golden Eagles when he snatched the ball from the Goan defender Brian Faria who took time to clear Nickson’s long ball in the box and shot past the Goan custodian. 

Dempo completely dominated the second session and after few minutes of midfield play, they scored two more goals in the last quarter of the match. 

In the 73rd minutes, Mario Mascarenhas made no mistake to head in from inside the box off Nickson’s perfect free-kick, whereas four minutes later Beevan’s fine header to Mario’s corner made it 4-0 for the Golden Eagles.

In between these, Beevan had almost scored the goal but his powerful shot hit Meldon’s leg for a corner.
