RAIA: Guardian Angel SC got the better of United Club Verna 2-1 in the final to clinch the 10th Loutolim Panchayat Cup 2024 organised by SCC Loutolim, at Montir ground, Loutolim, on Saturday.
As the final match commenced in front of the large crowd, both teams displayed good skills and determination to keep the spectators busy. UC Verna’s Lenon Pereira had the first opportunity at the goal to take lead but his attempt was saved by Guardian Angel SC goalkeeper.
Soon, Jaison Dias of Guardian Angel SC was brought down in the danger area by the goalkeeper and Referee Raja Phir wasted no time to award a penalty to Guardian Angel SC, which was converted by Rayan Menezes.
At the breather, Guardian Angel SC were leading 1-0.
Changing over, United Club of Verna dominated the game but failed to score.
In the 45th minute of play, UC Verna defender handle the ball in the danger area and again Referee awarded a penalty to Guardian Angel SC, which was converted by Rayan again to complete his brace.
As the match progressed, UC Verna pulled one goal back through Desmond Pereira. International football player Alvito D’Cunha was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Blaz Brito, president of Communidade; Sarpanch Sanfrancisco Fernandes, Joana Fernandes, Charles Dias, club officials and other dignitaries.
On the occasion, Sesa FA coach Charles Dias was also felicitated. Seby Fernandes compered, while Peter Gomes proposed a vote of thanks.
