PANJIM: Last year's runners-up Tarun Bharat will clash with Herald in the final of Vijay Gad memorial inter-media cricket tournament organised by Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG), at SAG ground, Campal, on Friday.
In the semi-finals, Herald won the toss and elected to bat. Laxman Gawandi played a fine unbeaten knock of 51 runs, to power Herald to a formidable total of 118/4 in the allotted 10 overs.
Ganpat Paradkar played a whirlwind inning of 24 runs off 13 balls that included four hits to the fence. Herald captain Shailesh Zantye contributed 18 runs. Goa Doot's Amar Pawar, Shailesh Barve and Jagannath Khawanekar took one wicket each.
In reply, Goa Doot were restricted to 59/7 in their allotted 10 overs with Herald bowlers doing a very good job. Amar Pawar was the top-scorer with 13 runs.
Anil Desai and Dinesh Redkar picked up two wickets each, while Ganpat Paradkar and Mithun Naik claimed one wicket each. Herald's Laxman Gawandi, who registered the first half-century of the tournament, was named man-of-the match.
In other semis, Tarun Bharat outplayed The Goan, registering a 10-wicket win.
Tarun Bharat won the toss and decided to field. Put into bat, The Goan lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 53 runs in 9.3 overs.
In reply, Tarun Bharat cruised to victory in just 5.2 overs as openers Anil Bandiwadekar (42 not out) and Sagar Karbotkar (9 not out) put on an unbeaten stand of 56 runs.
