Clarence, Vellington and Mevan score; St Xavier’s HSS in final

FATORDA: Holy Spirit Institute, Margao blanked Fr Agnel Multipurpose HSS, Verna 3-0 to emerge winners of the U-17 Subroto Mukherjee Salcette Taluka football tournament organised by DSYA, at Astroturf ground, Fatorda, on Wednesday.

Holy Spirit dominated both the halves as the best chance for Fr.Agnel fell to striker Alloid S Colaco in the 12th minute but his move was thwarted by Holy Spirit defender Anish Gadar.

 Holy Spirit’s Clarence Fernandes netted the first goal of the match with a glancing header off Harsh Patre’s free-kick in the 15th minute. Seven minutes later, Holy Spirit doubled the lead through Vellington Fernandes’ down ward header.

 In the second half, Fr Agnel made another move through Shawn D’Silva but his move was disrupted by the Holy Spirit defence line in the 34th minute.

Two minutes later, Holy Spirit further inflated the lead through Mevan Dias’ power-packed shot to make it 3-0.

The guests present for the final were Gurudas Vernekar, Assistant Director of DSYA, Mahesh Revonkar, APEO Salcette, Manthan Adpaikar,TSO Salcete Taluka, Aleixo Da Costa of GFDC, Anthony Pango GFA Executive member and other dignitaries.

At Duler Stadium, Mapusa, St Xavier HSS, Mapusa registered a convincing victory over DMs PVS HSS 2-0. Nelson Monteiro and Aaron Pereira scored in each half.

St. Xaviers HSS, Mapusa will now face St Britto HS Mapusa in the final on July 20, at 10 a.m.
