MARGAO: Students from different States who had come to Goa to participate in the National Kickboxing championship were put through a harrowing time last night as the hotels did not allow them to leave since their bills were not paid.

It was the timely intervention of Margao Town Police Inspector Kapil Nayak who threatened to book the hotel management for confinement of the students that the children were allowed to leave the hotels late night so that they could board their train at the Margao Railway Station.

Following a request from Kickboxing Association of Goa the Indian Association of Kickboxing Organisation allowed the national championship to be held in Goa and accordingly signed an agreement listing out certain conditions.

Pradeep Shinde the Secretary General of Indian Association of Kickboxing Organisation lamented that the local organizers changed the venue from Peddem grounds to Margao and did not pay the lodging and boarding fees of the participants that they had agreed to pay.

However, Manjunath Tangadi General Secretary of Kickboxing Association of Goa said Peddem was proving to be too expensive and Pradeep failed to honour his verbal promise of getting that stadium free for the nationals.

Besides, he said that the Federation did not pay the Rs. 1000 per participant they had promised to pay to cover the lodging and boarding fees and instead started paying for the food and the hotels themselves without consulting the local organizers.

Two hotels did not receive the payments for the stay and both refused to allow the students and officials living in their hotels leave the premises and that is when the police had to intervene.

Pradeep this morning lodged a complaint with the Margao Town Police who have received it but say they cannot do anything in the matter since it is a civil matter and the concerned parties will have to move the appropriate court to redress their grievances.
