Kudchadkar wins bronze; Manju in semis

PANJIM: Satish Kudchadkar, Goa, along with his partner Murali M D (Kar) put up a creditable performance in men’s doubles 75+ age group to secure a bronze medal, at 45th Indian Masters Veterans National Badminton Championships at Navelim, today.

 Kudchadkar and his partner lost in the semi-finals 15-21, 19-21 to Vidya Bhushan Arora (Utr) and Mohan Murari Lal Srivastava.

Kudchadkar will be in line for two more medals. In men’s singles 75+ he registered a 21-16, 21-7 win over Ratanlal Maroo  (Raj) while in 75+ mixed doubles, Kudchadkar and Gowramma Veeralinga (Kar) defeated Bhupal Singh Chawat and Maya Chawat (Mah) 21-11, 21-7 to move into the finals.

Goa was assured another medal courtesy a fine display from Manju Khandeparker and her partner Sunitha Swaminathan TN) who defeated Swati Rege CG) and Sukesha Saggi UP) 21-11, 21-10 in women’s doubles 55+ quarters.

 Marina Albuquerque, Goa, and Poorva Ranade  (Kar) beat Suma James and Prem Nahar (Raj) 21-2, 21-4 to move into the women’s 55+ doubles quarters. Marina, however, was beaten in the mixed doubles 55+ when she and her partner Shailendra Bagre, MP went down to Rajeev Sharma (CAG), and Rajshree Nitin Bhave (Mah) 16-21,19-21, 5-21.

Meanwhile, Goa’s Ajay Gupta and Narahar Thakur went down fighting to Umesh Agarwal (Raj) and Romesh Kumar Sharma (JK) in men’s doubles 60+ pre quarters 17-21, 13-21.

Vamanan K and Peter Tellis (Goa) lost 13-21, 13-21 to Bimol Singh (CH). and Kumar Singh L (MNP) in men’s doubles 65+ quarter-finals while Pradeep Dhond and Juliana Colaco, Goa, lost 15-21, 13-21 to Naidu S B and Kanya Kumari Bhatta (Kar) in mixed doubles 65+ quarters.
