MARGAO: Maina Sports Club Curtorim drubbed Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 3-0 to storm into the final of the 11th Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup Soccer tournament, organised by United Club Benaulim and played at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Wednesday.

In a one-sided affair, Maina made a perfect start and surged ahead even before some of the Fatorda players could get the touch of the ball. Curtorim striker Myson Fernandes on receiving a pass from the midfield made some space for himself before striking a right footer which went past Fatorda goalkeeper Rayman in the 5th minute.

Nothing went right for Don Bosco as they conceded the second goal in the seventh minute.

Two minutes after the restart defender Valito Miranda fouled rival striker Myson in the area and the referee made no hesitation to point towards the spot. The resultant spot kick was easily converted by Neville Fernandes. The winners led 2-0 at the breather. Crossing over the story continued as Maina SC had the upper-hand over their opponents who were seen struggling throughout the match.

Fatorda were demoralized and Maina punished their opponents further when hard working striker Milagres Fernandes found the nylon with a rasping volley following a flag kick taken by Manuel Castanha in the closing stages of the match. Don Bosco were totally outplayed by their opponents as they couldn’t get past the strong rival midfield.
