Following their goalless stalemate against Guardian Angel SC in their previous encounter, Sporting Clube de Goa started the match on an attacking note.
After having a brief dominance in the first 15 minutes, Sporting conceded a penalty when their defender fouled inside the penalty box.
But much to the dismay of handful of Calangute Association fans, Flaming Oranje keeper Melroy came up with a brilliant save from the spot kick to deny Calangute’s Abdoul Fall.
However, this wasn’t the only miss. At the other end, Sporting Clube were awarded a penalty when their striker Stendly was brought down by the rival defender, however, the Panjim based club couldn’t do much to take the lead as Victorino’s spot kick was saved by the rival keeper.
Despite the rebound coming into the Assolda-based played, the striker’s shot went over the bar.
After much probing, Sporting Clube de Goa were finally rewarded with a goal in the 25th minute when Fredi played a cross from the right flank to lurking Marcus Mascarenhas and the latter made no mistake in finding the mark.
Once up by a goal, Sporting Clube de Goa enjoyed lion’s share of possession and finally taking advantage of the feeble Calangute defence, they scored their second at the half hour mark. Victorino on receiving the ball from Clive, ran down from the centre of Calangute Association defence and dribbled past the rival defender and the keeper before slotting home for the second.
Calangute Association pulled a goal back just before the breather when Sachinanad was played on goal by their midfielder, and the striker with his pace danced his way past Sporting Clube de Goa defender Clive before scoring past Melroy.
The former Panjim Footballers player displayed his class in netting the goal. Sporting Clube de Goa led 2-1 at the break.
Crossing over, Sporting Clube de Goa managed to score their third in the 82nd minute when Marcus on receiving an aerial through ball from the midfield scored past the onrushing keeper to make it 3-1.
