PANJIM: Fatima Convent High School, Margao emerged State inter-school girls football champions trouncing Poira High School 7-0 in a one-sided finals at Dramapur ground, today. They were leading 3-0 at the interval.
The highlight of the match, was a fine double hat-trick by talented Zuriel Tavares who scored in all six goals. Merecia Tacares added one.
Zuriel scored the first in the 6th minute off a corner from Merecia. The second by Zuriel came from a through pass by Anushka Dharwadkar in the 14th minute. Six minutes later, Zuriel netted off Ivanka Barretto.
Star striker Zuriel went on scoring two more after the interval with assists from Anushka and Merecia. The third was from a long, powerful shot. Merecia drove the last nail in Poira's coffin in the dying minutes as she drove solo and let go a power-packed try.
Fatima's success was a team effort from their PE teacher Perpetual Pires and coaches Cowan Lourenco and Jesley Pereira. "Hard work, perseverence paid off handsome dividends. The girls reserved their best for the finals. We are proud of them and especially striker Zuriel," said Perpetual.
