MAPUSA: Milagres Sports Club registered a hard fought 2-1 win over St. Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna to collect full points in the GFA 2nd Division League, played at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.

In the 16th minute, Milagres’ Jolan Fernandes sent an intelligent pass to well positioned Lesten Martins who had just the rival keeper Vinit Agarwadekar to beat but failed miserably from close.

At the other end, Marna too had a chance to take the lead when Claudio Rodrigues tried to find Vipul Pednekar inside the penalty box, but the latter’s strike missed the target narrowly.

In the 41st and 43rd minutes, Milagres scored two quick goals to go into the breather with a two goal lead.

Jolan sent a beautiful floater inside the 18-yard box, where a miscommunication between the rival keeper and defender saw the ball roll to Albino who tapped the ball into the goal to give his side the lead.

Two minutes later, Milagres doubled their lead when Jayesh Kadam floated the ball to well positioned Schubert Colaco who connected the ball with a power-packed right footer into the goal to make it 2-0.

On crossing ends, the Marna outfit came with renewed ideas and time and again attacked the rival citadel.

Their efforts were finally rewarded and they managed to reduce the lead in the 54th minute. Sangam sent a neat through pass to his teammate Vipul who placed the ball into the far corner of the goal to make it 2-1.

Marna had two more chances to level terms but the Milagres keeper Soma Korgaonkar came up with two out of the blue saves to deny Sidhant Shirodkar from scoring in the 71st and 87th minutes.

At Ambelim ground, Sao Jose de Areal SC eased past Nuvem SC 3-0.

Alvito Moura was the hero of the evening as he netted all the three goals for his team. The winners led 1-0 at the break.
