MoG Majorda win altar servers football

CURTORIM: Mother of God (MoG) Church, Majorda defeated St Alex Church, Curtorim 3-1 in the final of the St Joseph Vaz trophy, an all Goa altar serves football tournament, organised under the leadership of Fr Luis Pinto in association with Curtorim Gymkhana and Wilfred Leisure SC at St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Sunday.

Curtorim scored the first goal of the match through Shelton in the fifth minute.

The striker’s placement shot gave no chance for the rival keeper, 1-0.

Majorda striker Meuton Fernandes took control of the ball from Ashley Rodrigues and shot to equalise in the 23rd minute.

Wenchesley Braganza scored the second goal for Majorda in the 30th minute.

Minutes later, Meuton Fernandes completed his brace and netted Majorda’s third goal.

Curtorim team failed to convert their chances as their strikers missed several goal scoring chances.

Majorda dominated the final minutes of the match.

Rector of Rachol Seminary Fr Alexo Menezes was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Parish Priest of Rachol church Fr Eremito Rebello, Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco and other dignitaries.

The winners got Rs 6,000 and a trophy while the runners-up pocketed Rs 4,000.

Meuton Fernandes of Mother of God Church, Majorda bagged the best striker award.
