Nandini wins all-Goa women State championship
CANACONA: Margao’s Nandini Saripalli won the All Goa Women State Chess Championship after a draw in the sixth round against Gunjal Chopdekar.
She scored 5½ points with five wins and a draw. Tanvi Hadkonkar finished second with 5 points. Naik Sayuri settled for third place with 5 points while Sanvi Naik Gaonkar, Gunjal Chopdekar and Netra Sawaikar finished in the fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively with 4½ points.
Sequeira Jennica, Shweta Sahakari, Disha Verenkar and Sainee Dessai finished the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth place respectively with 4 points.
In the U-7 age group category, Jensina Sequeira won first place while Sheryashi Faldessai came second.
In the U-9 category, Saeeja Dessai won the first place while Tania Da Silva settled for second place.
Vardha Dessai topped the In U-11 category while Keya Padhte finished second.
Avni Hegde and Charuta Shetye emerged victorious in the U-13 and U-15 categories respectively.
Ashish Keni, Vice President of Goa Chess Association and President of Salcete Taluka Chess Association was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Dr. Aman Prabhugaonkar, President CTCA, Damodar Zambaulikar, Secretary STCA, Vasani Sawaikar, Daliya Verenkar and Jyotsna Saripalli.
The top seven players are selected to participate in the National Women Championship which will be held in Tamil Nadu from July 17 to 25.
