BETALBATIM: Navelim Sporting Club scored a solitary goal win over Goa Velha Sports Club 1-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of Martin’s Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club, at SAG ground, Betalbatim on Sunday.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowd on their toes. As the match progressed, both the teams showed the urgency and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards wasted from close range.
Crossing over, the teams started attacking each other’s citadel as a result there were many thrills at either end. Both teams had their chances but in vain.
Navelim Sporting Club got the all-important goal from Rowan Pereira in the 57th minute.
Stung by setback, Goa Velha Sports Club went all out in search of an equaliser but the rival defenders stood tall in protecting the slender lead. Chatur Naik of Goa Velha SC was adjudged Man-of-the-Match.
