BAMBOLIM: The husband-wife, defending champions, Pablo and Lucia Erat of Switzerland retained their crowns in the 5th Goa Triathlon which took place, at Bambolim, on Sunday.

While Pablo beat strong challenge from Germany’s Folker Schwesinger by milli-seconds, Lucia comfortably beat back the challenge posed by Morag McDowall of Great Britain in the main, Olympic distance Triathlon event.

However, Goa had plenty to cheer, as local triathletes, Subhash Gogi of Tilamol and Nicole Pavri of Panjim won their respective super sprint triathlon events in style.

Further cheer for Goa was provided when more Goans, Dr Belinda Viegas Mueller of Carmona came first in the women’s sprint duathlon event, while her son Rohan Mueller came second in the men’s sprint duathlon and Prutha Prabhudesai from Old Goa came third in the women’s sprint duathlon.

The event attracted a record 461 triathletes and duathletes, with as many as 309 took part in the event.
