Linda scores in the 58th minute to take the city side 13 points atop after the match was delayed due to miscommunication
MAPUSA: Panjim Footballers managed to register a solitary goal win over Albert Princesses in the fifth round match of the GFA Vedanta Women’s League organised by GFA, played at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday.
Once again due to lack of proper communication between referees in-charge Anthony D’Costa and today’s match officials, the match which was scheduled to start at 5 p.m, started at 5.25 p.m, due to late reporting of the match officials.
After today’s win Panjim Footballers took the top spot with 13 points while Albert Developers stays on 7 points.
It was after some fine defending by the Albert Princesses skipper Scindia Saundatikar and Leena Gaunco along with keeper Annette Da Costa, who gave very little space for the highest scorer in the ongoing league Karishma Shirvoikar to have a good look at the goal in the first session.
At the other end, Panjim side stopper Yadnya Parwar and Remediana Noronha along with keeper Candice Fernandes also managed to keep Marlat Cardozo, Wilma Vaz and Rizella Almeida at bay.
The Panjim eves had the first attempt at the rival goal in the 10th minute, when Alisha Tavares set up Karishma Shirvoikar inside the penalty box but the Albert Princesses keeper Annette Da Costa advanced to make a timely clearance.
Minutes into the match, Albert Princesses’ Shirley Fernandes saw her 30-yard shot travel over the crossbar.
In the last quarter of the first half, Panjim eves had two more chances to take the lead but Karishma shot the ball into the keeper’s hands, while Linda Caiado’s strike from close was collected by the keeper.
On crossing ends, Albert Princesses’ Rizella Almeida moved dangerously inside the penalty box and drilled a right footer which was comfortably collected by the Panjim keeper Candice Fernandes.
In the 58th minute, Panjim eves Linda Calado 25-yard shot brush the rival keeper Annette hands to find Karishma who nodded the ball into the goal, to give her side the lead.
Most valuable Player-of-the-Match was awarded to Albert Princesses goalkeeper Annette Da Costa at the hands of GFA member Franky Viegas.
