CANACONA: Perpetua Jaques also known as the Canacona Express secured the second place in 100mts as well as 200 mts in the 70 plus category at the 40th Masters Atheletic championships held in Guntur in February.

"I never realised that I was good in running till someone pushed me into running when I was 68", recounted Perpetua who hails from Sheller in Canacona.

“I am now 73-years-old and till now I have won state, national and international level awards in 100mts, 200mts, short put, tennis ball throw as well as tug of war. The hunger to win more medals has kept me motivated ", added Perpetua with satisfaction written all over her face.

Last year she was selected to represent India in the Masters Meet held in China and Sri lanka in the 70 plus age group. Moreover, she secured a podium finish in her favourite short distance running event.

Perpetua praised her coach Devi Gaonkar for helping her achieve this feat at this age. She also expressed her greatfulness to the Vice President of Goa Masters Atheletic Association Anita Rodrigues for her unprecedented support.

“I am not done yet and will run till I can but I may hang my boots at 80,” Jaques concluded.
