Jyoti beats the rival keeper Saba with a stiff grounder to score the all-important goal of the final

MAPUSA: Purple Women’s Empowerment registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Turquiose Female Autonomy in the Seven-a-side Discover Football 2017 Women’s Football tournament played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.

The match was equally contested with both the teams had number of scoring opportunities, but some fine defending by the both the teams keepers saw the match ended just in a 1-0 margin.

In the first session PWE striker Jyoti Burrett goal bound attempt was superbly saved by Turquoise keeper Saba Parveen.

At the other end in a counter attack Karishma Shirvoikar shot from close was blocked by PWE defender Rhea.

Another chance went a begging for TFA as Karishma smartly directed Vailanka D’Souza free kick at the goal which was timely cleared on the goalline by PWE defender Candice Fernandes.

At the start of the second session both the teams had a chance each to take the lead. TFA’s Karishma shot wide from close quarters, whilePWE Jyoti saw her blistering shot travel just over the post.

Finally PWE surged ahead through Jyoti who beat the rival keeper Saba with a stiff grounder, 1-0.

TFA tried their best to level terms with the local girls Vailanka and Karishma time and again attacking the rival citadel, but the PWE defenders Candice and Alish Tavares failed to bulge under pressure.

The third place was secured by Cream Gender Equality who defeated Ebony Equal Opportunity 2-0. Tenzin and Usha scored.

For the fifth and sixth place Silver self Determination registered a 6-2 win over Blue Bodily Integrity. Anline Fernandes scored a hat-trick, Nevile Colado (2), Monika Rani scored the sixth goal. For BBI colts Yashika Deshmukh scored two consolation goals.

For the seventh and eighth place Golden Grow Visibility registered a 4-0 win over Crimson Mutual Consent. Vinita Bhagat Neti netted a hat-trick, while Anita Raju added the fourth goal.
