PANJIM: Referees department was one which outgoing GFA President Elvis Gomes was keenly interested in improving. After initiating series of measures he gave the referees a parting gift in the form of ‘headsets’ which were introduced for the first time in the professional league match at Duler on Thursday.
Headsets are widely used to improve referees performance and is an attempt to eliminate errors of judgement made by referees. “I used to often preside over referees sub committee myself. When I had taken over, there was lot of bad blood with different groups trying to outwit one another. I am happy the referees are now seen as one unit. At the last meeting I had assured them I would provide them with headsets. I am happy I could fulfill the promise. But more than that, I am pleased with many new entrants who have taken to refereeing.” said Elvis emphasising on the importance of producing good referees.
