MARGAO: Churchill Brothers Football Club made light work of Salgaocar Football Club with a resounding 5-0 win in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Hero Junior League at Utorda ground on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Goan Football Club thumped Sporting Clube the Goa 4-0.
Churchill Brothers scored five goals in consecutive games as they had hammered Goan FC 5-1 in their previous match. With two wins in as many games, Churchill top the standings with six points.
Churchill Brothers dominated right from the start and broke the deadlock at the half hour mark through Aditya Salgaocar. He took time and composure to beautifully curl in a left-footer from outside the 18-yard box past Salgaocar keeper Syden Furtado.
They never allowed Salgaocar to bounce back and hero of the day Mevan Dias scored the second in the 33rd minute. Aditya did well to find Mevan and he finished with a well-placed grounder.
The combination of Aditya and Mevan proved deadly again as the latter finished neatly.
Changing over, the trend continued and Mevan returned the favour by setting up Aditya for his brace.
Mevan worked tirelessly for his third and was rewarded two minutes from the final whistle. He netted his hat-trick in style with an excellent half volley to complete the rout.
Churchill will next face Sporting Clube de Goa at the same venue on May 1. They play their final league game against Dempo Sports Club at Ella ground, Old Goa, on May 3.
At Nagoa ground, Verna, Goan FC’s Kunal netted two goals.
Sporting clube de Goa midfielder Wilson Baa took control of the ball from Bronson Vaz and dribbled past Salegeo Inacio Dias and Sahil Inamdar of Goan FC and shot from close range but Goan FC keeper Savio D’Costa was equal to the task.
Three minutes later FC Goa’s Kunal Prasad Virondkar opened the scoreline with an arrow bond shot off Jovial Dias connect in the 5th minute.
In the 15th minute, Goan FC’s Myron Fernandes long-range effort was saved by Sporting Clube de Goa keeper Bhaskar Jalmi.
Kunal Prasad dribbled past Sporting’s Iceson Carvalho and shot from inside the box to make it 2-0 in the 34th minute.
Jovial Dias missed an open sitter as the later shot wide in the 39th minute. However, the lad made amends to his earlier misses and scored in the 41st minute to make it 3-0.
It was  Reyes Cruz of Goan Football Club who made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute.
