SC Davorlim beat Nerul in shootout to enter final
Win 4-2 vie tie-breaker after playing a goalless draw
BENAULIM: SC Davorlim got the better of United Club of Nerul 4-2 via the tie-breaker to move into final of the 41st Cana-Benaulim football tournament, played at St John the Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Wednesday.
United Club of Nerul had the first chance of the match through Bhavesh Kandolkar, who after taking control of the ball from Jolious D’Costa dribbled past Bonny Niasso and Andrew Colaco and shot from the top of Nerul box however Davorlim keeper Sachin Astekar was equal to the task.
Davorlim’s Agnelo Colaco had the best chance when Paxton Gomes laid an inch perfect pass to the former inside Nerul box but Nerul keeper Siddesh Morje pulled off a stunning save to keep his team in the game.
Both teams tried their level best to score but both goalkeepers did a commendable job under their respective bar. There was no score at the end of regulation time.
In the tie-breaker, SC Davorlim netted through Bonny Niasso,Velington Rocha, Perryson Rebello and Agnelo Colaco while Yeshwant Naik and Paul Carvalho converted for Nerul. SC Davorlim will meet Cana-Benaulim Sporting Association in the final on August 20.
