CURTI-PONDA: SSC Loutolim came from behind to defeat Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 5-4 to enter the semi-finals of the 31st St Anne’s Festival inter-village soccer organised by Ponda Footballers powered by Dr Ketan Bhatikar’s SPARC and SAG, at Animal Husdandry ground, Curti-Ponda, on Wednesday.
Fatorda took the lead in the first half through Francis Andrade while Loutolim equalised in the dying minutes of the match through Brison Fernandes.
The match was equally contested with the ball moving from one end towards the other end. But defence of both the teams was brilliant.
Fatorda attacked through Mackwin who gave a diagonal ball to Francis but his shot was punched out by the keeper.
Fatorda got a free-kick near the box and Francis Andrade scored by placing over the wall giving no opportunity to the Loutolim keeper.
Down by a goal, Lotoulim attacked through Mark whose shot nearly missed the crossbar. Again Mark passed the ball to Shawn but his shot was saved by the keeper.
Fatorda could have increased the lead when Francis gave a through ball to Rahul but his shot deflected off a defender for a corner.
In the second half, Loutolim came nearly to scoring on two occasions but their forwards Joseph and Sandip took time to shoot and Roque of Fatorda cleared the ball.
Daren dodged past three defenders and chipped the ball to Mark but his header missed the crossbar.
In the dying minute of the match, Loutolim made a move on the flanks with Hanson giving a well measured pass to unmarked Brison Fernandes who equalised to send the match into penalties.
In the tie-breaker, Brison, Shelford, Hiljoy and Shawn scored for Loutolim while Roque, Sarinco and Ashley scored for Fatorda. Brison Fernandes was declared SPARC man-of-the-match.
