Salgaocar FC hold Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC
MAPUSA: Ten-man Salgaocar came from a goal down to hold Tuff Laxmi to a 2-2 draw in the ninth round match of the Goa Pro League, at Duler Stadium, here on Wednesday. Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC went into the breather with a one goal breather.
Both the teams started off with some enterprising soccer with moves few and far between. After some several missed chances Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC shot into the lead in the 14th minute when Nigerian import Francis Onyeamna got hold of the ball and unleashed a power-packed right footer which landed into the far corner of the Salgaocar FC goal.
Finding themselves a goal down Salgaocar FC stepped up the attack and twice came teasingly close to scoring.
First Brian Mascarenhas saw his curling strike at the goal being timely paired away by the Tuff keeper and then defender Biju Kumar came a brilliant header to keep Martin Scott’s corner away before onrushing Lenny Pereira could do any damage.
Crossing over, Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC almost doubled their lead in the 55th minute however Nigerian Ndubuisi Opara’s header off a Boney Niasso cross hit the upright after brushing past the legs of the defender.
After several missed chances the green brigade found the all important equaliser in the 60th minute when Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC defender Biju Kumar in the process of clearing away Martin Scott’s header, saw the ball roll towards Australian Calvin Mbarga who made no mistake to make it 1-1.
Nine minutes later, Salgaocar FC received a set back when their star striker Martin Scott was flashed a red card by referee Seby Morais for a dangerous tackle on Leston Afonso.
However, the never say die spirit of The Green Brigade saw them pump in another goal to take the lead in the 75th minute when Gilbert Oliviera’s long range strike had no answer from Tuff keeper Siddhesh Morje.
With four minutes left for end of the regulation time, Newton Azavedo restored parity after being set up by Boney Niasso.
Deep into stoppage time Tuff Laxmi Prasad SC could have turned the match in their favour however Salgaocar defender Pawan Kumar cleared the ball to safety before Francis Onyemna could aim goalwards.
