Drub FC Bardez; Devendra scores hat-trick while Joel nets a brace; Macroy, Agnelo were the other scorers

MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club drubbed Football Club de Bardez 7-0 in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.

Both teams had two changes to their sides as Salgaocar coach Norbert Gonsalves introduced Nigerian Keita Boubacar, while Umesh Harijan was back in the starting XI. On the other hand, Bardez gaffer Armando Colaco brought back Clinton Niasso and Krishnanath Shirodkar following their defeat at the hands of Goan FC in the last match.

Salgaocar started on an attacking note and marched many times on the opponents but it took 13 minutes for them to create the first potent attack of the match as Nigerian striker Joel Sunday shot on the goal from just inside the box where Bardez keeper Aliston Fernandes fumbled with the ball at first place but he was quick enough to collect it safely to deny the striker.

At the other end, Bardez skipper Jessel Carneiro saw his powerful strike from outside the box which was brilliantly blocked by Salgaocar keeper S. Rajini Kumar.

Salgaocar finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when their U-20 striker Devendra Murgaonkar headed in off James Fernandes well-taken corner.

Five minutes later, the Green Brigade doubled their tally through Sunday when he nicely collected James' fine cross and blasted in from six yards.

Salgaocar continued to dominate in the second session as they quickly added another to their tally in the 52nd minute when Devendra completed his hat-trick with a brilliant header off Sanson Pereira's corner.

The next four minutes saw Salgaocar scoring two more quick goals as first Macroy Peixote scored the stunner from 30 yards which hit the goalpost before entering the goal making it 4-0.

Two minutes later, Sunday scored his second and the team's fifth goal as the striker made an easy tap-in to Devendra's short pass in the box.

Sunday completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute when he scored from the spot after substitute Agnelo Colaco was brought down in the box by Bardez keeper Aliston to give away the penalty kick.

In the last quarter of the match, Agnelo wasted two easy chances as first his shot hit the goalpost before going out for a goal kick, while a few minutes later, Agnelo's powerful strike from just outside the box was brilliantly paired by keeper Aliston.

However, in the last minutes of added time, Agnelo found the net as he made not mistake to place the ball home after receiving a through pass from another substitute Clencio Pinto.
