PANJIM: Top Seeded GM Saptarsi Roy Chowdhury of Railways from West Bengal (2428) and Goa’s budding Chess Player (MTCA) Datta Kambli (1498) had the top honours as they remained unbeaten with 4 points on the first day of the 1st All India Open Raid Ranking Chess Tournament 2019 Sponsored by Venkatesh Shanbhag Charitable Trustat Panchayat Hall, Chicalim on Saturday.
Amongst the 270 participants were players from Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Assam, West Bengal Karnataka & Goa. Bestrakhov Dmitry from Russia (2011). Santu Mondal, Delhi (2171) , Ritvij Parab, Goa (2156) & Niraj Saripalli, Goa, seeded second, third & 5th respectively also made good of their opponents in all 4 rounds and remained unbeaten
. Cruz Wilson, Goa (1705) also had 4 points along with Francis, Mizoram (1571) and other 7 players.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by chief guest Captain Devanshu Rastogi – Naval Officer in Charge & Chief Staff Officer at Goa Naval Headquarters Area in presence of distinguished Guests of Honour Shri Sukhant Shanbhag, Chief Sponsor of this prestigious tournament, Shri Abhijit Salkar – Sushila Homes, Vasco And Shri Vivek Gupta – Raj Resorts, Bogmalo and Committee members of the Organisers - Mormugao Taluka Chess Association. Kishor Bandekar, MTCA President, GCA Secretary & AICF Treasurer welcomed the august gathering, followed by speech by the chief guest Captain Rastogi.
