MAPUSA: Sesa Football Academy failed to report for the Goa Professional League 11th round match of the GPL against Salgaocar Football club at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.
Speaking to the Match Commissioner Gokuldas Nagvenkar said that only one team Salgaocar FC reported for the match, where also all the match officials, ball boys, stretcher boys etc were present. As the other team, Sesa FA did not report for the match, he will send his report to GFA headquarters who would give their final verdict.
Levino Pereira-Salgaocar FC coach when contacted said that his team had reported for the match but was sad to learn that it could not be played as his opponents some players and team officials were tested COVID positive. As Salgaocar FC are also in contention with the GPL title are schedule to play
Calangute Association SC on April 30th, part of the ‘Called Off’ match.
Sesa FA's team manager Joyner Antao said that he had informed GFA headquarters that one coach who had tested positive had come in contact with the entire team of 29 players & 11 support staff and therefore they did not want to take a chance as cases of COVID are rising so they will not be playing their fixture of 26th April, hence a postponement was asked, which GFA had turned down.
The GPL was schedule to end by April15l with SELVEL covering the matches live. But with repeated postponement mostly due to COVID 19, spectators present for the matches commented that this year too GPL will have an ending of last season where a total Lockdown was reported by the Government and the
remaining matches being cancelled resulting in Sporting Clube de Goa and Churchill Brothers being declared as joint winners. So this year too there will be more than three winners as they have not completed their matches and no relegations as the bottom three are yet to play their matches.
Repeated calls were made to GFA's Competition Manager Dominic Pereira but Herald could not fetch a response.
