Sporting Clube, Ambelim SC clash in final today

PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa and Ambelim Sports Club will clash in the final today to prove their supremacy in the Goa Football Association State Futsal Championship, at Chowgule Futsal Court, at 8 pm.

Both the teams have remained unbeaten in the competition in the road to the final. Both Sporting Clube de Goa and Ambelim had earlier topped their respective group. Sporting Clube defeated FC YFA 3-1 in the first game before recording a hard-fought 4-2 win over Sirvodem SC. In their last group game, Sporting Clube outclassed Youth Club Manora 5-1. In the semis, SC Goa were totally in control of the game beating SCC Cavelossim 8-2. Sporting has scored 20 goals so far with Marcus Mascarenhas being the top goal scorer with 8 goals. Meanwhile they have conceded just 6 goals as Ozen Silva and Clive Miranda have been terrific in defence. 

At the other end, Ambelim are no different. They beat Cavelossim 6-3 before beating Panjim 5-2 and in their last group match they down Goa Velha 8-0. Ambelim defeated Sirvodem 5-1 in the semis. They scored 24 goals and conceded 6.. Ronaldo is the leading goal scorer for the team from South. Ambelim Fraser has been rock solid in goal along with Domnic in their line-up.

Speaking ahead of the final, Chairman of the GFA futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Babli Mandrekar acknowledged the organising team for successfully conducting the tournament smoothly and added, “This is the first time GFA has organised futsal tournament and so far it’s been a smooth sailing cause of the organising committee. We are having two best teams in the competition in the final who have played some brilliant futsal. We hope the best team win and represent Goa at the National,”

Co-Chairman John Silva, who had been regularly at the event, ensured the tournament is conducted smoothly. “Though it’s for the first time we organised futsal, we ensured it was the best. We had some of the finest players and teams in the competition and now we are left with Sporting Clube and Ambelim SC. Sunday will decide who will top Futsal in the state,”

GFA President Churchill Alemao will be the chief guest for the final.
